No one wants an old out dated house !!!! When I see a house like that all I think is remodel, repair, update etc. and that is going to cost more money and I move on. Yes they will get more money and they will sell faster. Leave them alone they know what they are doing.

People do things because they can. There is often no rational behind. I would try hard, not think about other peoples motivations, it will free up enormous energy for yourself.
You will be very successful in live, if you do that.
(By the way, in most cases, you get 10 cents on the dollar, if you remodel and sell. You really have to know, what you are doing)

The improvements DRASTICALLY increase how much you sell the house for. Say I have a decent house, but my bathroom is ugly. People looking to buy my house will remember that as a downfall. If i put $2000 into my bathroom and make it nice, people will see the house as a whole as pretty and new. It could raise the selling price by $5000.

You can also try http://www.homeaway.com. I’ve seen ads for it and it was mentioned on Good Morning America. So I looked up my city and was surprised at the amount of homes being offered for vacation rentals.

Torch Lake is BEAUTIFUL!!! You should also look into Empire and Leelanau County. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park is located here. Beautiful scenery, vineyards, camping, cabins, hiking, … I could go on and on! I grew up in the area and have since moved away. If I could go back to one location it would be Leelanau County. The drive from Chicago can be very scenic as well. Follow the coastline and you’ll be treated to a mix of lighthouses, artsy small towns, and you could even stop in Mt. Pleasant for a visit to Michigan’s Adventure (an amusement/water park). Once you near Benzie County, the largest city nearby will be Traverse City. T.C. is located between Torch Lake and Leelanau Co.
I spent almost 30 years touring Michigan. If you prefer Wisconsin, Check out The Dells.

Buying a house is an investment. Remodeling increases the value of your home. Then you sell to cash in on your investment. If they are doing the work themselves they stand to make an assload of money provided they did a good job.
