I’m planning on taking my girlfriend on vacation this summer for our one year anniversary, but I don’t know where I want to go yet. I have a budget, i’m only making around $1200 a month, and only have about $300 saved as of right now. I want to take her somewhere I can preferably drive, I am in Pennsylvania. Anyone have any suggestions, or had some good vacations themselves? Thanks alot.
Hi Diplomat…,
I have a list of amusement parks below…I have not been to any of them…but, I have had friends and relatives who have…these parks has been highly recommended to me and my husband to check out…so, when I seen you were from Pennsylvania….these parks are not extremely far from your state….cedar point is in the upper part of Ohio (heard this place has the best rollar coasters if you are into that)…..bush gardens in southern part of Virginia….six flags is probably the farthest being in Georgia…and pigeon forge is in Tennessee…..(I heard that Dollywood is a bit pricey but very nice)…anyway, maybe you can check out these sites and get somekind of ideas…….

http://twitter.com/chrispirillo – When Geeks go somewhere new, it takes us awhile to acclimate. There’s just so much stuff we have to take with us everywhere we go. However, I’ve found myself packing a little too much at times, have you? What are your must have Geek items that you have to take with you when you travel? What can’t you leave behind? Ollie was kind enough to send us a list of the top things that a Geek must be sure to pack whenever they go on a trip. How does his list compare to yours? http://chris.pirillo.com – http://geeks.pirillo.com

1) Beach/island vacation- spending most of your time relaxing on a beach or at a pool, either on an island or other beach/tropical/warm weather destination.
2) Snow/ski vacation- hitting the slopes either skiing or snowboarding, in a cold weather destination.
3) Adventure- hiking, backbacking, etc.- an "on the go" vacation filled with action.
I personally vote for (1)- I’m all about relaxing by the beach or at the pool on vacation.
None of the above. I prefer to see the cultural side of things. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the sun etcetera, but I just don’t see the point of lounging all the time. I like to explore the country I’m visiting.
I need a vacation but can’t go far. I thought I would have a vacation in my living room? What would be some great tips to having a fantastic time on my vacation?
It must be a slow day in the J.J. household today. But to answer another of your fabulously funny questions, I will give it my best shot. Go out in the garage, climb up into the attic and get out all the seldom used camping equipment. Then, after you have removed all the camping stuff, take into the living room and set up the tent with your sleeping bags, etc. You may have to go outside to find enough rocks to build your fire pit, but place it near the tent so you will not get cold during the night. Go to your local convenience store and pick up enough wood to last through the night. Then return home, turn your air conditioner down to 60 degrees. When your husband comes home, you can have a nice roaring fire going, with a cup of hot chocolate and only wearing a smile. It will be the best at home vacation ever. Good luck with that.

We are planning to come to LA for the thanksgiving vacation. We will be spending 4 days there and we have already been to Disney, Universal Studios and also Vegas. Can anyone suggest nice vacation spots (within 5hrs driving radius)??
Thanks in advance.
ok definitely yosemite(it may be too far away but its great), San Diego(perfect weather), Palm Springs/Palm Desert(outstanding weather and sun), Pismo Beach(too great 4 words) but lastly, i would recommend San Fransisco. San F. is really far away for LA but its fabulous. there is tons of shopping, diversity, art museums, and China Town! china town is filled with chinese restaurants, ducks hanging in the window(its kinda sad), and lots of trinket shops with really cheap stuff. but BEWARE: all the trinket shops sell the same things, but some things are over priced and some things are way cheaper. make sure you go to all the trinket shops before you buy an item. i really hope i helped and i hope you have fun!

I would like to plan for a little vacation in 2008. And there are so many places. I think 1 week would be enough. Anybody would like to share their vacation experience? Where did you go? What did you do, etc.
It’s for me and maybe a friend or mom. I’m in my late 20’s, but I’m not planning on doing anything adventurous. I just need a little getaway. Feel free to edit your answers. I will keep checking. Thanks.
This is a very vague question, but I’ll do my best to help you. First & foremost is cost. Are you on a strict budget? Do you want some place warm or cold? Are you a beach nut or a snow skier?
Because it would take a novel to answer your question accurately and to it’s fullest possible extent, I will focus on a place that would probably suit you best considering the weak dollar.
First of all, if you would like to stretch your dollar as far as it will go and have a wonderful time (and by the way, I have no idea how old you are which could also affect this response) plus guarantee warm weather even in the winter then I would suggest Mexico. Almost any of the popular destinations is fine. Cancun is a lot of fun as is Puerto Vallarta.
However, if you don’t mind spending a bit more money and you also enjoy gambling then I can’t suggest St. Maarten strongly enough. Not only do they have casinos there but there are also numerous side trips you can take to neighboring islands, along with scuba diving wind surfing and just about any other water sport you can think of. You can save money on food by going to any number of grocery stores located conveniently around the island. But be careful at check out!! Non employees will be right there to bag your groceries for you, and of course they will expect a tip. Usually a buck or two is fine, but you can save it by simply bagging it yourself. Before I go much further, I should inform you that there are both a French and Dutch side to the island. When you see it spelled St. Maarten, then the referrence is to the Dutch side and when you see it spelled St. Martin, then the referrence is to the french side. I would suggest you stay on the Dutch side because that is where most of the action is and also the casino’s. Renting a car is almost a MUST because there is so much to see and do on this island, but again I will give you a helpful warning. When you rent a car, insist on a french license plate. Why? Because the Dutch tags are sought after by thieves for resale to souvenir shops, but no one cares about the drab french tags.
As far as eating out goes you can eat cheaply if you go to a place called "Johnny B’s under the tree". That is the name of the "restaurant". He has barbeque lobster, chicken, ribs and other items at very very reasonable prices. From the airport follow the main road to go toward Phillipsburg. Where you would normally turn right at the blinking signal DON’T. Go straight between one half mile and one mile on the left side of the road and you will see it. I don’t think there is a sign there, but you should know it when you see it.
As if I haven’t already told you a lot, I have even more!! Guess what?? St. Maarten is a duty free shopping island, and boy do they have shopping, particularly in downtown Phillipsburg. Jewelry and leather are big along with some electronics. Stay away from the shops near the airport as they tend to be a bit more expensive.
Lastly, but certainly not least is the nightlife. There are many places to go, just ask any of the locals and they can help you and perhaps even where you are staying can help you but don’t miss "two for tuesdays" at the Greenhouse in the Phillipsburg marina. It gets a very good blend of locals as well as tourists there. There are many things to enjoy on St. Maarten, and if you decide to go I hope that this information will have helped. Oh, and I almost forgot. If you are feeling a bit brazen or just want to ‘look’, then you might want to go to Orient beach on the east side of the island on the french side. It’s the most famous clothing optional beach on the island. Cupecoy on the west side which straddles both the french and dutch sides can also be quite interesting.

Vacation is a great time to start working out! In this video I show you a fitness routine for the complete beginner that you can incorporate into your vacation, no equipment is required and it can actually make your vacation more enjoyable.
The most important aspect of the workout is the cardio. Park the car and dont get back in it till its time to drive home. Rent a bike for transportation or walk everywhere, not only does it provide exercise but its a lot more enjoyable and lower stress than driving. The workout can be incorporated into your daily tourist activities and doesnt need any special time alloted. The workout is:
biking or walking, 1-2hrs per day
crunches for core/abs, 2 sets per day (should take less than 5 minutes)
pushups for chest and triceps, 2 sets per day (should take less than 5 minutes)
pullups for lats and biceps, 2 sets per day (should take less than 5 minutes)
I spend a lot of time in the video showing various places to do pullups, this is because I get an incredible number of emails from people who claim that they have “nowhere’ to do pullups. In the video I point out lots of places you can do this key exercise.
The reason many people dont get started in bodybuilding is that it seems to complex and intimidating, thats why I recommend this simple program. Its an easy program and you start feeling better immediately, and your brain starts to associate exercising with feeling good. A recent study showed that as little as 10min of exercise a day can do wonders for you mind and body. Once you brain has made the connection between exercise and feeling good, motivation is no longer a problem and you will find yourself wanting to add new exercises.
If you are overweight and can only do 3 knee pushups, dont be discouraged, its not the number of pushups you can do that is important but the effort. For those of you who are overweight, think of it this way, you are lifting far more weight in your pushups than your lighter counterparts so its natural that you cant do as many pushups. What is important is that you make progress each week, if you did 3 knee pushups last week, try to do 3 1/2 knee pushups this week.
Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn’t have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts.
